The Laser Carbon facial or peel also known as the Hollywood Peel, Hollywood Facial, is a fast and non-invasive procedure that uses carbon and heat to improve the look and texture of the skin. It is a non-ablative laser treatment that uses the conductive qualities of carbon to exfoliate, cleanse, clear and tighten pores, brighten and even-out skin tone. The laser carbon facial also activates collagen and elastin production to give you a skin that is smooth, plump, and radiant. The Laser carbon peel is a great way to get a quick skin refresher without the longer downtime associated with other laser procedures or chemical peels. Laser carbon facials are particularly useful in people with oily skin, acne, and enlarged or clogged pores. This treatment is also beneficial if you’re starting to see the effects of sun damage to your skin. Laser carbon peels are safe for all skin types.
BENEFITS OF A CARBON LASER PEEL
Laser carbon peels deeply exfoliate skin. They also help stimulate collagen production.
Laser carbon peels are used to treat:
- Acne, acne-associated scarring and pigmentation.
- Stimulating collagen growth for firmer, plumper skin
- Erasing or fading yellow/brown pigmentation
- Reducing enlarged and clogged pores
- Treatment of melasma
- photoaging
- Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
- Reducing the signs of premature aging
Chemical peels also treat these skin conditions, but here are some of the main differences between the two:
- laser carbon peels use heat instead of chemicals for results
- laser carbon peels require no down time
- people with sensitive skin or skin conditions like eczema will usually experience less redness and irritation after a carbon peel than from a chemical peel
Laser carbon peels are superior to chemical peels in how controllable and precise they are to use. It is easier to target an acne scar or a few spots on the skin with a laser. It is also better for deeper collagen remodeling if you are trying to improve on skin tightness.
HOW DOES A LASER CARBON FACIAL WORK?
A carbon cream is applied to the skin and given time to penetrate deep into the skin and bond with any debris that might be present, such as dead skin cells, contaminants, and oil. Once the carbon cream has dried, laser light energy usually is applied to the skin. Because the laser light is highly attracted to carbon particles, its energy and heat is absorbed by the carbon destroying the particles in your pores.
The reaction causes a mini explosion. The explosion pushes the energy, in the form of heat, deep into the layers of the skin where the skin cells are activated to produce new collagen and elastin. Meanwhile, on the surface of the skin, as the explosion occurs the carbon is vaporized along with any dirt, oil, and dead skin.
DOES A LASER CARBON PEEL/FACIAL HURT?
The treatment is gentle, non-invasive, with a mild to moderate sensation of heat. You will hear a small pulse as we target the carbon particles in your pores using the laser. Most clients describe a warm and prickly feeling with no pain.
If you have sensitive skin, you may experience a slight pinking or reddening of the skin. This usually lasts for one hour or less.
INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOUR LASER CARBON PEEL.
Stop using any retinols for at least one week before the laser treatment. You should also use sunscreen with SPF35+ daily during this time. For dermal fillers or toxin treatment, we recommend you wait a minimum of 2 weeks before undergoing laser carbon treatment. The laser carbon peel is a multi-part process that takes around 30 minutes from start to finish. For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as a lunchtime peel.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR TREATMENT SESSION:
- Your provider will spread a layer of carbon cream onto your skin. The carbon absorbs oil, dirt, and dead skin cells from deep within the pores.
- You’ll wait for about 10-20 minutes for the carbon cream to dry.
- After the carbon has dried, your provider will give you eye shields to protect your eyes from the laser.
- Your provider will then apply laser energy to the skin to fragment the carbon into tiny particles.
- A smoke evacuator is used during the procedure to suction and remove the carbon particles from the air.
- Your provider will then apply a hydrating moisturizer and sunscreen to your skin after the treatment.
You should immediately see brighter, glowing skin and tighter pores.
LASER CARBON PEEL AFTERCARE
- Treat your skin gently after getting a laser carbon peel by continuing to moisturize daily.
- It’s normal to see some flaking or experience dryness for a few days,
- Use sunscreen regularly with at least SPF 35+ for several days after treatment.
- Don’t use any products containing retinol for at least five days after treatment.
- Do not exfoliate or use any abrasive or invasive skin treatments for at least one week.
- If you have oily skin, use products designed to combat acne to maintain optimum results.
- Use products containing collagen, collagen supplements, or follow a collagen-boosting diet if you have photoaged skin or fine lines.
HOW EFFECTIVE IS A LASER CARBON PEEL?
Laser carbon peels are typically very effective for improving the look of oily skin and large pores. If you have severe acne or acne scarring, it may take several treatments before you see full results. Fine lines and wrinkles should also be visibly diminished after one to two treatments. Results are even more noticeable after having a few sessions due to the cumulative effect of the previous treatments.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Like chemical peels, laser carbon peels won’t provide permanent results. Results will depend on the condition of the skin, lifestyle, diet, exercise and sun exposure. You will need ongoing treatments to sustain the benefits of each. Carbon peels may be repeated every two to three weeks. This period allows for ample collagen regeneration between treatments. You can schedule an appointment before a special occasion to brighten and cleanse the skin.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF A LASER CARBON PEEL?
Laser carbon peels are painless and require no recovery time. Other than mild and temporary redness and a tingling sensation there are no reported side effects.
THE TAKEWAY
Laser carbon peels can refresh and improve the look of skin, and they’re best for people with oily skin, enlarged pores, and acne. People who have minor wrinkling and photoaging will also benefit from this treatment. Laser carbon peels are considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore typically not covered by your insurance.
